Experience

James Collins is an Architect and Historic Preservationist who has worked with some of America’s most distinguished Architects prior to starting his own firm. His experience includes:

 

  • Apprenticed with Charles E. Peterson, FAIA, a seminal figure in American architectural history as founder of the Historic American Buildings Survey and in Historic Preservation as founder of the Historic Preservation Program at Columbia University. 
  • Project Architect in the Studio of Hyman Myers, FAIA, one of America's leading Historic Preservation Architects. Projects included the restoration of the West Wing of the National Gallery of Art, East Wing of Independence Hall, the Betsy Ross Birthplace, and the International Tennis Hall of Fame in Newport, Rhode Island. 
  • Project Architect in the Studio of John Milner Architects in Philadelphia, an internationally respected and widely published Architect with a four-decade-long career in Historic Preservation and Traditional Design. 
  • Project Architect in the Firm of Ferguson & Shamamian Architects in New York City, a leading American Classical and Traditional Residential Design Firms recently featured in the publication New Traditional Architecture: Ferguson & Shamamian Architects.
  • In 1999, the firm of James S. Collins, Architect was formed to focus on Architectural Renovation, Restoration and new Classical and Traditional Design Projects. ​
